Helpful Information About Therapy, Fees, & Scheduling
IN-PERSON IN OTTAWA
|
ONLINE & TELEPHONE ACROSS ONTARIO AND QUEBEC
What can I expect in my first therapy session?
In our first session, I focus on getting to know you and understanding what brought you to counselling. We’ll talk about your current concerns, relevant life experiences, and what you hope to gain from therapy. This session is a relaxed, supportive space where you can ask questions and share at your own pace. Together, we’ll begin shaping an approach that feels right for you.
What types of counselling services do you offer?
I offer individual, couples, and family counselling, both in-person and online. I support clients with concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship challenges, emotional regulation, self-esteem, and life transitions. My approach is collaborative and tailored to your unique needs and goals.
Do you offer faith-based counselling?
Yes. I offer both faith-based (Christian) and non-faith-based counselling. If faith is important to you, I can thoughtfully integrate spiritual perspectives into therapy while using evidence-based psychological practices. This is always guided by your preferences and comfort level.
Do you offer in-person or online therapy?
I offer both in-person, online therapy and telephone counselling (for one-on-one only). This allows you to choose the format that feels most comfortable and accessible for you, whether you prefer meeting face-to-face or attending sessions from home.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Everything shared in therapy is confidential and protected by professional and legal standards. There are limited exceptions related to safety and legal requirements, which I will explain clearly during our first session.
How long are therapy sessions?
Individual therapy sessions are typically 50 minutes long, with extended 75-minute sessions also available. Couples and family therapy sessions are 75 minutes, allowing more time for meaningful conversation, collaboration, and support.
Do you accept insurance or offer receipts for reimbursement?
Direct billing is available for most insurance providers. If your plan doesn’t support direct billing, I’ll provide detailed receipts that you can submit to your extended health benefits provider for reimbursement. Coverage varies by plan, so I recommend checking with your insurance provider to confirm eligibility.
What is your cancellation & rescheduling policy?
If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, please do so through your JaneApp account.
We understand that unexpected situations can happen. However, appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice, or missed entirely, are charged the full session fee.
Missed and late-cancelled appointments are not covered by insurance.
What happens if I’m late or miss a session?
If you are running late, please notify us as soon as possible.
Arriving more than 10 minutes late without prior notice may result in the session being cancelled and treated as a no-show, with the full session fee applied.
Sessions still end at the originally scheduled time.
Do you offer psychiatric consultations?
Yes. I offer access to psychiatric consultations through the Psychotherapy Matters Virtual Collaboration (PMVC), a secure, team-based virtual care model. Through PMVC, I collaborate with family physicians or nurse practitioners and psychiatrists to support your care. Psychiatric consultations are typically available within weeks, are conducted virtually through secure video, and the psychiatrist’s time is covered by OHIP. PMVC can support diagnostic clarification, medication recommendations, and specialized assessments such as ADHD and ASD. If you’re interested, please let me know during a session and I’ll guide you through the referral process.
What should I do if I am in crisis?
Please note that responses to emails, voicemails, and text messages may take up to 24 hours. If you are experiencing an emergency or crisis, do not wait for a response. Instead, take immediate action by contacting one of the following:
- Call 911
- Call or text 988 (Suicide Crisis Helpline)
- Visit your nearest emergency department
- Contact the Distress Centre of Ottawa: 613-238-3311
- Reach out to local crisis services in your area
If a crisis or emergency arises during a session, I may contact emergency services and your designated emergency contact on your behalf and request that they attend to your location.
