About Me

My name is Almarine Thomas.

I am a Registered Psychotherapist and I am guided by the professional standards and ethical guidelines of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). The enrichment and nurturing of healthy individuals and families are important to me. I have the desire to serve our community by supporting individuals like you in your journey toward healing.

I have more than twenty years of experience working with adolescents, adults and seniors providing individual, family and group therapy. I provide clinical supervision to qualifying and registered Social Workers and Psychotherapists as per CRPO Clinical Supervisors' standards. I hold a Bachelor of Social Work and Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology degree. Professional development is completed regularly in the areas of evidence-based best practices and clinical interventions.

My Philosophy

Your experiences shape your emotions, actions and mindset. They can help or hinder your ability to thrive and live a purposeful and hopeful life. It can be difficult to ask for help, admit that you are not doing well, and believe that change is tangible. I recognize your courage, faith, and humility in choosing to take this step and not allow your circumstances to define your identity, destiny and purpose. You are deserving of a life filled with connections, joy, peace, love and hope. We will create a safe, transparent, confidential and reflective space to help you uncover breakthroughs.

My Philosophy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT targets current problems and can help you to understand the connection between your thoughts/ thinking, emotions/feelings and actions/behaviours. These impact your beliefs about yourself, your environment and, the people in your environment. Also, CBT helps you to uncover and implement strategies to improve your mindset by targeting negative, irrational and unhelpful thoughts that keep you from thriving. Because this approach is problem-focused and practical it is more effective for someone ready to make changes to improve their behaviour and attitudes.
